How do I learn to scuba dive?

Learning to scuba dive is simpler and more achievable than most people think.

1) Choose your starting point

• Discover Scuba Diving (beginner scuba experience)

• Scuba Diver (first certification)

• Open Water Diver (full beginner certification)

2) Learn the basics + practice skills

You’ll learn equipment, safety, and core skills like buoyancy control, mask clearing, and regulator recovery, then apply them in the water with your instructor.

3) Do your ocean dives

This is where it all clicks. You take what you’ve learned and explore Caribbean reefs.

You’ll do 1 academic session, 1 pool session, then head out for 2 dives in the ocean with a certified PADI Instructor. Learn the basics, build confidence, and experience that unforgettable first breath underwater.

Learn to dive in the Caribbean

If you’re learning to scuba dive for a trip, the Caribbean is a great place to start. Punta Cana is popular because it’s warm, tropical, and beginner-friendly. It’s perfect for reefs, clear water, and a true vacation plus bucket-list moment.

How long does it take to learn to dive?

If you’re just curious and want to get a feel for it, our beginner scuba experience (DSD) takes about 4 to 5 hours. If you’re ready to get certified, the Scuba Diver course is usually around two days. And if you want the full beginner certification, Open Water Diver typically takes a few days, depending on the schedule and conditions.

How hard is it to learn to scuba?

Easier than you think. You don’t need to be super fit. You just need basic comfort in the water, willingness to learn a few simple skills, and a calm, supportive instructor. You’ll practice step by step in controlled conditions, so confidence builds fast.

Do I need to be an experienced swimmer?

You don’t need to be an expert swimmer, but you should feel comfortable in the water. For certification courses, you’ll need basic water confidence. For DSD, you’ll be closely supervised by an instructor the whole time, and everything is taught step by step.
